Inside AFP

AFP successfully launched and certified on Whatsapp Channels

AFP's Whatsapp Channels are now fully operational and certified. Named 'AFP News' in English and 'Agence France-Presse' in French, the accounts are currently managed by the social media teams in Paris and London.

Whatsapp Channels have proven instrumental for media outlets aiming to build and engage communities among Meta's 3 billion users on social networks, including Facebook and Instagram.

Akin to the interactive nature of traditional chats on Whatsapp, channel subscribers have the option to react to posts using emojis, without the option of leaving comments.

AFP's French account, certified since November, has gathered around 18,000 subscribers so far. The English account, certified just a few days ago, garnered its initial 2,000 followers within a week.

How to subscribe to AFP's WhatsApp Channels?

Open WhatsApp on your phone. Select the ‘Updates’ tab on the bottom left side of your screen on iOs (Apple), or on the top navigation bar on Android. Accept the terms and conditions and in the ‘Search’ tab, type ‘AFP News’ and/or ‘Agence France-Presse' to find the accounts. Click on the channel and subscribe by hitting the plus (+) icon.

How to activate notifications?

Enabling notifications is the key to staying in the loop with the latest posts, since they are deactivated on all WhatsApp Channels by default. To activate notifications, open a channel and tap on the bell icon on the top right corner of your screen.
