AFP appoints Guillaume Meyer as Deputy News Director for Video and Audio

Agence France-Presse (AFP) has appointed Guillaume Meyer as  Deputy News Director for Video and Audio.

Meyer, 43, currently holds the position of Global Editor-in-Chief for Video and is the first journalist from the video department to step into this management role. He succeeds Juliette Hollier-Larousse, who has held the position since 2017.

In his new role, Meyer will oversee AFP's strategy for video and audio (podcasts), working closely with Phil Chetwynd, Global News Director.

Video remains a top editorial priority and a major growth area for AFP — known for its unparalleled coverage of global news events delivered by an international team of dedicated and skilled professionals. In a highly competitive media environment, AFP aims to further strengthen its position as a go-to news source for media outlets worldwide in the coming years.

Key initiatives include expanding the Agency's presence with major national and international broadcasters, modernising its editing tools, and integrating artificial intelligence to improve the quality of its production and the relevance of its journalists' work.

Meyer began his career at the newspaper Le Télégramme in Brittany in 2004, before participating in the launch of BFM TV (2005) and France 24 (2006) in Paris. In 2007, he became a correspondent for the latter in Washington, D.C., where he eventually joined AFP's video department in 2012, before heading to Los Angeles from 2014 to 2016. Returning to Paris in 2016, Meyer served as AFP's Deputy Editor-in-Chief for France (2017-2019), later promoted to Editor-in-Chief for France (2019-2021). In 2021, he was appointed Global Editor-in-Chief for Video.

AFP's management has also recognised the work carried out by Juliette Hollier-Larousse between 2017 and 2024 in the position. "AFP's video production and structure has grown immeasurably under Juliette's expert guidance. She has worked tirelessly to create an excellent managerial culture, and she leaves behind a truly world class video product”, said Phil Chetwynd. Hollier-Larousse will continue to work with the global news management.
