AFP offers exclusive coverage of the conflict in Tigray
Agence France-Presse (AFP) was the first independent media to reach Tigray since the Ethiopian government launched a major military operation against the dissident authorities in the far northern region of the country.
A multimedia team of text, photo and video journalists produced exclusive witness reports from the terrified inhabitants of the city of Humera that came under artillery bombardment before being captured by the federal army amid fierce fighting.
AFP was also the first international news agency to publish, starting on 12 November, images from the Sudanese border of the arrival of tens of thousands of Ethiopians fleeing the conflict. AFP has been the only media to maintain a permanent presence there.
Journalists from AFP were also the first to arrive at Mai-Kadra and report on the presence of mass graves where several hundred civilians were summarily executed on 9 November.
The AFP teams were able to compare the witness accounts at the scene with those from refugees in camps on the Sudanese side of the border.
The coverage has been used widely by media around the world.
