‘Inside Gaza’ documentary project wins two awards at Sunny Side of the Doc Festival

The documentary project Inside Gaza, co-produced by FACTSTORY and AFP, was awarded the ‘Best Global Issues Pitch’ at the 35th Sunny Side of the Doc Festival in La Rochelle on 25 June.

The project also received the special AJD Industry Days Award, which includes 2 accreditations to attend the third edition of the Al Jazeera Documentary (AJD) Industry Days, scheduled from 14 to 16 September 2024, in Sarajevo.

Featuring exclusive footage from journalists at the AFP bureau in Gaza, the film provides a compelling insight into a war that the majority of international media have not been permitted to cover. Inside Gaza chronicles the experiences of journalists reporting under rocket fire and amid propaganda from all sides, highlighting the human distress they witness while ensuring their own survival and that of their relatives and friends.

The documentary is written and directed by Hélène Lam Trong, who received the Albert Londres Prize in 2023 for ‘Isis, the Ghost Children.’ Trong will direct the film in collaboration with the AFP team in Gaza.

AFP and its audiovisual production subsidiary FACTSTORY, as well as its FACTSTORY Belgium branch, have decided to co-produce a film whose ambition is to go beyond the daily journalistic coverage of the conflict to deliver, in a long-format story, unpublished and exceptional testimonies and documents on how the siege of Gaza was experienced from the inside by its journalists.

The Inside Gaza documentary is currently in development and is expected to be completed by mid-2025.
