Angelos Tzortzinis awarded at the Atlanta Photojournalism Seminar 2022
AFP photographer Angelos Tzortzinis has been awarded at the Atlanta Photojournalism Seminar 2022 photography competition.
Angelos has obtained the first prize in the Sports Pictures Story category for his black and white series telling the story of young migrants passionate about basketball.
They love basketball and they live for it - they play to forget about their problems. They are second generation migrants in Greece. Unfortunately, they don't have the same luck as basketball superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo: they don't have the Greek nationality even though they were born in Greece, have studied in Greece and speak Greek.
Born in Athens, Angelos Tzortzinis studied at the Leica Academy of Creative Photography. Since 2007, he has worked as photographer, covering events worldwide, from the 2010 Haiti Earthquake to the 2018 Attica fire. His work has been recognised by major awards including the 2018 Atlanta Photojournalism Seminar, and Time Magazine’s Best Wire Photographer Award in 2015.
Founded in 1973, the Atlanta Photojournalism Seminar highlights photojournalism and rewards every year international photographers.
